With the Peaq, Škoda is launching its largest model to date. And to visually convey this top-tier performance through the name, Skoda’s marketing experts employed a clever linguistic twist, combining the English term for “peak” with the brand’s tradition of having all SUV model names end with a “q.” The brand’s new flagship electric SUV is therefore hitting the market as the Peaq, available with two battery capacities. Prices start at 49,900 euros for the entry-level Peaq Selection 60 model with a 63 kWh battery.
Like the small Epiq before it, the Peaq also features clean lines without any distracting elements. Skoda calls its current design language “Modern Solid.” The Peaq features a new T-shaped lighting signature at the front and rear, and it is the first model in the family SUV lineup that can be ordered with a panoramic roof featuring Dynamic Shade Control. To emphasize the smooth body lines, the Peaq also features flush-mounted door handles. Despite its imposing shape, the company’s aerodynamicists managed to get the Peaq on the road with an excellent drag coefficient of 0.249.
The driver looks out onto a clean, uncluttered dashboard; a head-up display is also available for an additional charge. The Android-based infotainment system, displayed on a centrally mounted screen—installed vertically for the first time—facilitates access to digital services. Analog buttons for everyday settings complement the controls. The seats are comfortable and offer good lateral support. The materials are high-quality and, as usual, superbly crafted. The comfort experience can be further enhanced with the optional Maxx package. This package includes power-adjustable front seats (certified by the “Aktion Gesunder Rücken” campaign) with a massage function and ergonomic leg rests. Additionally, a Sonos audio system with 16 speakers can be ordered to create a lounge-like atmosphere. According to Skoda, the five-seater’s cargo area holds 935 liters; with the rear seats folded down, the cargo capacity increases to 2,150 liters. That’s almost enough for a small move. In the seven-seater, the space shrinks to 299 liters.
For the battery pack, Skoda’s engineers selected a nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) chemistry, which achieves a high energy density, translating to a longer range. Dealerships offer three powertrain options: The Peaq 60, equipped with the smaller battery, delivers 150 kW (204 PS), accelerating the SUV—which weighs around 2.3 metric tons and is 4.87 meters long—to a top speed of 160 km/h. It takes 8.4 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h, and the top speed is reached at 160 km/h. Skoda promises a range of more than 450 kilometers.
The rear-wheel-drive Peaq 90 and the all-wheel-drive Peaq 90x models use the larger 91-kilowatt-hour battery. The former delivers a maximum power output of 210 kW (286 PS) and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.1 seconds (range: 640 kilometers). The powertrain in the Peaq 90x delivers 220 kW (299 PS) and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.7 seconds. The range is reduced to 610 kilometers. The top speed is limited to 180 km/h on both versions. Using a fast charger, it takes 28 minutes to charge from 10 to 80 percent. The Peaq also features bidirectional charging, allowing users to charge e-bikes, for example, while on the go.
Once on the road, the Skoda demonstrates its pleasant driving characteristics. Thanks to the adaptive DCC (Dynamic Chassis Control) suspension, the Peaq achieves top marks for comfort. The steering is precise and allows for dynamic cornering. However, this highly recommended comfort suspension is only available for an additional charge. Despite its size, the Peaq is one of the more maneuverable models in its class, and thanks to the meticulous work of the aerodynamicists, the Peaq shields its occupants from acoustic disturbances. Skoda promises fuel consumption of 15.1 to 17.6 kWh. After an initial test drive on country roads and the highway, the onboard computer reported 17.4 kWh.
The driver is supported by a comprehensive range of driver-assistance systems. Standard features include a front radar with pedestrian and cyclist detection, as well as a city emergency braking function and a junction assistant. Travel Assist 3.0, a 360-degree surround-view camera, and the intelligent parking assistant are available as optional extras. Ten airbags are also standard equipment. (aum)
