Industry Alliance Drives Hydrogen Mobility Forward

Daimler Truck, Volvo Group, Toyota Motor Corporation, Bosch, Air Liquide, TotalEnergies, TEAL Mobility, and MB Energy aim to accelerate the commercialization of hydrogen-powered mobility. Together with other companies from the transportation, energy, and industrial sectors, they are working on an end-to-end value chain for heavy-duty road freight transport.

The focus is on competitive fuel cell trucks, strategically located refueling stations along key European transportation corridors, and a reliable supply at affordable prices. Infrastructure and hydrogen supply are intended to grow in tandem with the expansion of the fleets. This will enable trucking companies to operate their vehicles with predictable total operating costs.

The initiative explicitly views hydrogen as a complement to battery-electric powertrains. Especially on demanding long-haul routes and in operating scenarios with high energy demands, the technology could become a scalable option for CO2-free transportation. However, it remains crucial that production, logistics, refueling, and the vehicle lineup all grow together quickly enough.

Together with political decision-makers in Germany, the companies aim to create a blueprint for a fully integrated system. The participating CEOs plan to present specific details on September 15 during the IAA Transportation in Hanover. (aum)
