The Volvo EX30 Becomes a Power Bank

The Volvo EX30 will soon be able to power external devices. A free over-the-air update will gradually enable the Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) feature for both new and existing customers. Using a compatible adapter connected to the charging port, the electric SUV can deliver up to 3 kW at 16 amps—enough to power e-bikes, coolers, coffee makers, or power tools. If the battery level drops below 20 percent, the system automatically cuts off the power supply. V2L utilizes the model’s bidirectional charging capability. The new EX60 also supports power output, and additional model series are set to follow.

At the same time, Volvo is introducing the so-called “Plug & Charge” feature in select European markets. Drivers simply connect the EX30 to a compatible charging station; authentication and billing then take place automatically using stored data. (aum)
