Lexus NX with Extended Electric Range and Fast-Charging Capability
Lexus is giving the NX a comprehensive refresh for the 2027 model year. The midsize SUV will feature an updated design, sixth-generation hybrid technology, and a new digital cockpit. The focus is on the NX 450h+ plug-in hybrid, which offers an electric range of up to 100 kilometers and, for the first time, a DC fast-charging capability. Pre-sales are set to begin in fall 2026, with the European market launch following in spring 2027.
Externally, the NX looks sportier with a new grille that’s more seamlessly integrated into the body, slimmer lights, and darker accents. New all-weather headlights with triple-LED projectors, adaptive high beams, cornering lights, and fog lights come standard. Inside, the cabin features a horizontally oriented dashboard with a 12.3-inch instrument cluster and a 14-inch touchscreen.
At the heart of the technology is the new hybrid architecture. The NX 450h+ combines a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with a lithium-ion battery whose capacity has been increased to 23 kWh. System output rises to 307 PS, and the 0-100 km/h sprint is said to take 6.3 seconds. Lexus cites an electric range of more than 100 kilometers. Using DC fast chargers, the battery is said to charge from 10 to 80 percent in about 30 minutes. The NX 350h, with 199 PS, also benefits from optimized components. Both variants will be capable of towing up to 1,500 kilograms in the future.
Another new feature is the “Sensory Concierge,” which links lighting, sound, climate control, seat temperature, and scent to selectable interior scenarios. According to the manufacturer, the latest generation of Lexus Connect operates significantly faster and expands navigation, voice control, and app services. The standard Lexus Safety System+ features broader sensor coverage and additional driver-assistance functions.
All technical specifications are preliminary, as the new Lexus NX has not yet been certified. (aum)
