Peugeot is bringing a GTi back to the market. Following last year’s concept car, the production version was unveiled today in Le Mans ahead of the 24-hour race. The E-208 GTi is intended to evoke the legendary 205 GTI, delivers 207 kW (281 hp), and produces 345 Newton-meters of torque. This allows the E-208 GTi to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.5 seconds. The best power-to-weight ratio in the segment, at 5.5 kilograms per horsepower, also contributes to this performance.
The Peugeot accelerates from 80 to 120 km/h in 3.2 seconds. The top speed is limited to 180 km/h. To meet sporty demands, the body has been lowered by two and a half centimeters, and the track has been widened by 5.6 centimeters (front) and 2.8 centimeters (rear). An additional stabilizer bar optimizes balance and cornering behavior, while the mechanical limited-slip differential ensures optimal power transfer even on low-traction surfaces. Special springs and exclusive dampers with hydraulic bump stops stiffen the suspension. The ESP features a Sport mode that also deactivates regenerative braking. The steering has been specially calibrated.
The seven available body colors are inspired by the historic model. These are complemented by exterior details in red. Inside, black and red set the tone. Design elements from the 205 are also present here. The front seats have integrated headrests, and the steering wheel is wrapped in perforated leather and Alcantara.
Peugeot states the standard range of the E-208 GTi as up to 374 kilometers. It can be charged at up to 100 kW. The base price is 44,900 euros. (aum)
