More load volume or better maneuverability

Kia has expanded its battery-electric "Platform Beyond Vehicle (PBV)" model range with the PV5 Cargo with high roof (L2H2) and the shorter PV5 Cargo L1H1. The two new variants are currently making their European debut at the 2026 Commercial Vehicle Show in Birmingham. Information on the market launch is not yet available.

Compared to the PV5 Cargo L2H1 ("International Van of the Year 2026") launched at the end of 2025, the new high-roof version offers more cargo space. The electric van in the S van segment has a 2,255 millimetre long, 1,815 millimetre high and 1,565 millimetre wide load compartment with a capacity of more than five cubic meters (according to the VDA), a capacity that is usually found in the M van segment.

The L2H2 variant with a high roof also offers functional improvements. Depending on the optional equipment or accessories, these include, for example, a passageway from the driver's area to the load compartment as well as an airline rail system that enables the load to be securely and adaptably secured.

The PV5 Cargo L1H1 is optimized for urban logistics and service fleets. It has a more compact load compartment with a volume of just over four cubic meters (according to VDA) and these dimensions allow efficient loading and good manoeuvrability in confined spaces.

The new variants also roll on the Kia E-GMP.S platform (Electric Global Modular Platform for Service). Three batteries with capacities of 43.3 kWh, 51.5 kWh or 71.2 kWh are available for both variants. In addition, both support alternating current (AC) charging at 22 kW, as the AC charging infrastructure is the most extensive in Europe. The maximum range is up to 372 kilometers for the high-roof variant and up to 392 kilometers for the standard model (both according to WLTP).

The PV5 model range also includes the PV5 Passenger as a five-seater (further configurations with more seats will follow), the PV5 Chassis Cab, a chassis with driver's cab, and conversion versions such as the PV5 Crew Van. Building on this foundation, Kia aims to expand its PBV strategy with the introduction of the PV7 in 2027 and the PV9 in 2029, completing its PBV model range. With more than 40 body styles, the company aims to offer highly customizable mobility solutions tailored to the diverse needs of customers and businesses. (aum)
