Lamborghini gives up: No electric sports car

The end for the Lanzador electric super sports car. Lamborghini boss Stephan Winkelmann told the Times that the demand for an electric sports car was "close to zero". Investing in the development of a purely electric car when the market and customers are not yet ready for it is an expensive hobby, he said. The decision is said to have been made at the end of last year. Winkelmann announced in the interview that Lamborghini would focus on plug-in hybrids and offer combustion engines "for as long as possible".

Lamborghini belongs to Audi and is therefore part of the Volkswagen Group. The company delivered more than 10,000 vehicles in 2025 - more than ever before. The most important sales markets are Europe and the Middle East. By 2030, all Lamborghini models on offer are to be plug-in hybrids. (aum)
