Toyota sets up another closed-loop factory

Toyota is to open another recycling plant in Walbrzych, Poland. It will cover an area of 25,000 square meters and process around 20,000 end-of-life vehicles (ELV) per year. The plant will systematically and resource-efficiently recover reusable components and valuable raw materials from cars at the end of their life cycle. Batteries, wheels and other components are tested for their potential for reprocessing, reuse or recycling. In addition, materials such as copper, steel, aluminum and plastics are to be fed back into the production of new Toyota vehicles.

With the new plant, Toyota is expanding the activities of the existing plant in Walbrzych, which already manufactures key components for hybrid and conventional drives. Just last year, the company inaugurated its first factory for the circular economy in Europe. It is located in Burnaston in the UK. (aum)
