Dodge Charger: It could also come as a combustion engine.

The Dodge Charger could officially be coming to Europe - and not just in its electric version, but also as a combustion engine. This was confirmed by Tim Kuniskis, head of the North American Stellantis brands, in an interview with auto-medienportal.net.

"We planned from the outset that the Charger would also comply with European regulations," said Kuniskis, adding: "This applies to both the electric version and the combustion engine."

If the three- and five-door Charger were to be offered in Europe, European roads would be enriched by an American icon. Its closest competitor would be the Ford Mustang, although its electric version presents itself as an SUV that only has the name in common with the two-door coupé. The Dodge Charger is different: the notchback model is identical in both body shapes except for the number of doors.

The new Charger follows in big footsteps: its predecessor rolled off the production line for a proud 18 years, while the coupé derived from it, previously known as the Challenger, was built for 15 years. Sales figures remained high until the end, not least because customers had assumed that the current successor series would only be offered with electric drive.

However, in addition to the originally introduced electric version, there is now also an in-line six-cylinder biturbo engine available in two power levels. A Hemi V8 is also likely to be offered again in the foreseeable future. Demand for the combustion engine versions is enormous in the USA, while the electric version can only be sold to customers with five-digit discounts.

The two-door Charger with a 550 hp six-cylinder engine costs the equivalent of 46,000 euros in the USA. When this model comes to Europe, the prices here are likely to be significantly higher - mainly due to the EU-specific taxes for classic combustion engines. However, an exact date for the market launch has not yet been set. (aum/jm)
