Mazda is celebrating a milestone: by the end of 2025, a total of five million units of the Mazda CX-5 will have been produced and sold worldwide. This makes the compact crossover SUV the third model series in the company's history to exceed this mark, after the Mazda 323 and the Mazda3.
At its market launch in 2012, the Mazda CX-5 was also the first vehicle with which the Japanese company presented its current "Kodo" design philosophy and "Skyactiv" technologies with efficient combustion engines and modern platform architecture. Production of the first generation began in 2011 at the Ujina No. 2 plant at the company's headquarters in Hiroshima. In the following years, production was expanded to other locations. The second generation was launched on the European market in summer 2017. Since 2018, the CX-5 has been the best-selling model series globally within the current Mazda product range.
The third generation of the Mazda CX-5 was presented in Europe for the first time in July 2025 and will be launched in Europe, North America and Japan in the spring of 2026 following its European premiere at the Brussels Motor Show in January. In Germany, prices start from 34,990 euros. (aum)
