The Dacia Sandrider has won the 48th edition of the Dakar Rally, the toughest test for man and machine in international rally sport. Nasser Al-Attiyah and Fabian Lurquin secured victory over the total distance of 7976 kilometers with a lead of almost ten minutes. The three other crews from the Dacia team also reached the finish.
Sébastien Loeb and Édouard Boulanger returned to the final bivouac on the shores of the Red Sea in fourth place. Lucas Moraes and Dennis Zenz finished their first Dakar Rally with the team in seventh place. Cristina Gutiérrez and Pablo Moreno finished eleventh overall.
During the 13 extremely demanding days on the challenging special stages in Saudi Arabia with a mixture of undulating, stony tracks, sand dunes and fast open passages, the Dacia Sandriders celebrated two stage victories and only once dropped out of the top three in the overall standings.
Nasser Al-Attiyah has now won the Dakar Rally a total of six times - including three victories in Saudi Arabia, the venue since 2020. The Qatari rally driver's previous successes came in 2011, 2015, 2019, 2022 and 2023. It was Fabian Lurquin's first overall victory in the Dakar Rally. The Belgian had previously achieved three Dakar podium finishes: Second place in 2022 and 2023 and third place in 2024. (aum)
