The new Alpine A390 offers all-electric driving pleasure by combining the very special genes of the A110 with more space and functionality. Unusual for the French sports car brand, the A390 has an interior with space for five people and the brand's first all-wheel drive. Three electric motors (one at the front, two at the rear) in combination with the AATV (Alpine Active Torque Vectoring System) active torque distribution ensure maximum dynamics, safety and agility.
The A390 is the second model in Alpine's Dream Garage - after the A290 and before the future A110, which will also be 100 percent electric. The A390 is intended to appeal to new buyers and commercial customers and thus expand the brand's customer base. With the Ampere electric platform and services for optimal charging at home, including Mobilize Power Services and bidirectional V2G technology - unfortunately initially only for the French market - the A390 is part of an electric ecosystem.
The A390 is manufactured in France at the brand's historic factory in Dieppe. To this end, the plant is currently undergoing a transformation: it is becoming a bridge to the future, both in terms of electrification and in terms of production volumes. The motors are manufactured at the Cléon plant, while the cells and modules for the high-performance batteries are produced by Verkor in Dunkerque. Assembly takes place in Douai. The Alpine therefore remains French through and through, right down to the exclusive Michelin tires and the Devialet audio system.
Philippe Krief, CEO of Alpine, calls the A390 "a combination of sportiness and performance with technology and sophistication for a unique driving experience in everyday life and on sporty journeys." He hopes that the unmistakable design will inspire lovers of beautiful sports cars. The shape of the A390 combines flowing and sporty lines with an inviting interior for up to five passengers. The dimensions, unprecedented for an Alpine, are generous yet remain compact: 4,615 mm long x 1,885 mm wide x 1,532 mm high.
The interior of the A390 is dedicated to sportiness - with leather on the dashboard, center console and door panels as well as atmospheric lighting. The cockpit is driver-oriented: The two displays face the driver. The heated sports steering wheel is covered in blue Nappa leather and has a flat underside and a central axis with the controls for driving modes, assistance systems, telephone, voice assistant and instrument display. The high center console is inspired by the iconic design of the A110.
With a length of just 4,615 mm, the A390 combines a wider track for stability with a short wheelbase of 2,708 mm for agility. The adapted suspension with high-performance aluminum chassis parts ensures unique handling. The low center of gravity and the weight distribution of 49 percent at the front and 51 percent at the rear form the basis for balanced and playful handling.
Thanks to the three engines, the all-wheel drive gives the A390 exemplary traction in all road conditions. With acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.9 seconds, a total output of 470 hp and a torque of up to 824 Newton meters (Nm), the GTS version offers driving performance at the highest level. The acceleration corresponds to that of the Alpine A110 R. The Alpine Active Torque Vectoring System, which is activated via the two rear engines, plays a key role in the driving dynamics of the A390.
The Alpine A390 is available in two versions with two different power levels: The A390 GT develops 400 hp and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds, with a top speed of 200 km/h. The A390 GTS produces 470 hp. The A390 GTS produces 470 hp and a maximum torque of up to 824 Nm and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds, with a top speed of 220 km/h.
The GTS version is fitted with a new 400-volt high-performance battery whose cells and modules come from France. It was specially developed for Alpine by French specialist Verkor. The battery in the GT version consists of cells manufactured by LG in Europe and is also assembled at the Ampere Electricity plant in Douai.
Thanks to the battery capacity of 89 kWh, the A390 offers a range of up to 551 km (WLTP combined) with 20-inch wheels and Michelin PS EV tires or up to 497 km (WLTP combined) with 21-inch wheels and Michelin PS 4S tires. All equipment variants are equipped with a heat pump as standard, which optimizes the interior temperature and increases the range. The DC fast-charging power is up to 150 kW in the GT version and up to 190 kW for the A390 GTS. (aum)
