Porsche Cayenne: Power boost for the luxury SUV class

Once again there is a new, most powerful production Porsche of all time - and it is electric. With the Cayenne Electric, Porsche is expanding its SUV range with a fully electric model that combines performance, efficiency and comfort in one package. Two variants are available at market launch: the Cayenne Electric as the entry-level model and the Cayenne Turbo Electric as the top-of-the-range version, both with all-wheel drive as standard.

The Cayenne Turbo Electric accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 2.5 seconds and reaches a top speed of 260 km/h. Launch Control delivers up to 850 kW (1156 hp) and 1500 Nm of torque. In normal driving mode, up to 630 kW (857 hp) is available. The entry-level Cayenne Electric model reaches 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds, with a top speed of 230 km/h, up to 325 kW (442 hp) and 835 Nm of torque. Both variants have a push-to-pass function that briefly unlocks an additional 130 kW (176 hp).

The Cayenne Electric also sets standards in terms of energy recovery: up to 600 kW of recuperation should ensure that around 97 percent of all braking processes are carried out purely electrically. Mechanical brakes only intervene rarely. The Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake is available as an option for the Turbo Electric.

At the heart of the new models is the 113 kWh high-voltage battery with double-sided cooling. It enables WLTP ranges of up to 642 kilometers in the Cayenne Electric and up to 623 kilometers in the Turbo. Thanks to 800-volt technology, the Cayenne can top up its energy storage at DC fast charging stations with up to 400 kW - enough to get from 10 to 80 percent in under 16 minutes or to recharge for over 300 kilometers within ten minutes. As an option, inductive charging with up to 11 kW is also possible for the first time - simply park over an appropriate base plate and the charging process starts automatically.

The design combines classic Porsche proportions with a modern, aerodynamic design language. A low hood, slim LED headlight modules, frameless doors, a striking flyline and a light strip with a 3D effect characterize the silhouette. Porsche combines all of this with elaborately optimized aerodynamics, including air curtains, a closed underbody and - in the Turbo - active aeroblades. The result is an aerodynamic value of cW 0.25, which is outstanding for an SUV and visibly helps fuel consumption.

In the interior, modern technology ensures comfort and individualization. Panel heating, ambient lighting and electrically adjustable rear seats increase comfort on all seats. A curved OLED flow display merges with the center console, complemented by a fully digital 14.25 instrument cluster and optional front passenger display. Together, this results in the largest display area ever installed in a Porsche. There is also an AR head-up display, new digital operating logic, AI-supported Voice Pilot and an App Center that enables streaming just like in the living room. At the same time, central functions deliberately remain operable in analog form. The digital vehicle key can be shared with up to seven users.

There is also more space: the wheelbase has grown by almost 13 centimetres, the rear has become noticeably more comfortable and the load compartment more usable. 781 to 1588 liters plus 90 liters of frunk space and a towing capacity of up to 3.5 tons ensure that the Cayenne Electric is not only fast, but also surprisingly pragmatic.

In terms of chassis technology, both models combine adaptive air suspension, Porsche Active Suspension Management, rear axle transverse lock, optional rear axle steering and Porsche Active Ride. This reduces body movements, increases stability and comfort and is intended to ensure dynamic handling on all surfaces. An off-road package is also available for demanding terrain.

In addition to the electric version, Porsche will continue to develop the Cayenne worldwide with combustion and hybrid drives "well into the next decade", says Chief Sales and Marketing Officer Matthias Becker. The all-electric Cayenne models are available to order now. Prices in Germany start at 105,200 euros for the Cayenne and 165,500 euros for the Cayenne Turbo. (aum)
