Stellantis and Pony.ai launch the light commercial vehicle

Stellantis and Pony.ai, a pioneer in fully autonomous driving, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the aim of accelerating the development and deployment of robotaxi solutions in Europe. The companies plan to start deploying test vehicles based on the Peugeot e-Traveller in Luxembourg in the coming months. A gradual introduction in European cities is planned from 2026 onwards. The practical tests will focus on evaluating safety, performance and compliance with legal requirements.

The collaboration, with Pony.ai's European division headquartered in Luxembourg, will integrate Pony.ai's advanced autonomous driving software with Stellantis' AV-Ready Medium-Size Van (K0) platform in the all-electric variant to deliver safe, scalable and efficient solutions for urban mobility. The cooperation will initially focus on light commercial vehicles while laying the foundation for a broader application that could potentially include autonomous mobility services for goods and people.

"Fully automated vehicles that do not require drivers have the potential to transform the way people move around our cities. They can provide safe and affordable options," said Ned Curic, Chief Engineering & Technology Officer of Stellantis. And Dr. James Peng, Founder and CEO of Pony.ai is excited to "work with Stellantis to bring our autonomous mobility technology to Europe". "Their strong presence in Europe and their portfolio of iconic brands make them the ideal partner to accelerate our growth in this key market." (aum)
