Production of the new EV4 has started at the Kia plant in Zilina, Slovakia. The compact electric hatchback, specially developed for European customers, is also the brand's first all-electric model to be produced in Europe and rolls off the production line exclusively at Kia Slovakia.
The crossover presented in February with a low hood, elongated silhouette and sloping rear window is intended to make the transition to e-mobility easier for a wide range of customers. Like its brand brothers, it is based on the E-GMP (Electric Global Modular Platform) and is offered with two battery variants (58.3 and 81.4 kWh), which should enable a range of up to 625 kilometers.
The Slovakian Kia plant, which employs around 3,700 people, also produces models such as the XCeed and Sportage - including hybrid and plug-in hybrid variants. The production lines were equipped with new technologies as part of the 108 million euro modernization project. The plant has an annual capacity of 350,000 vehicles and 540,000 engines. To date, more than five million vehicles have rolled off the production line in Zilina, around 11 percent of global Kia production. (aum)
