LS2 wins legal dispute

After four years, LS2 has won a legal dispute with Shark. In the last instance, the Spanish Supreme Court dismissed the appeal lodged by the French helmet brand and finally decided the case in favor of the Chinese competitor. Shark had accused Liao System 2 of patent infringement for flip-up helmets. The judges found that the LS2 models Convert and Valiant do not infringe a patent that Shark applied for in 2005 and which expires at the end of this year. The chin section of the helmets can be pushed back beyond the usual position at forehead height to just before the neck area.

The dispute ended up in court in Spain because LS2's European sales company is based there. The company is also currently transforming itself from a pure helmet manufacturer to a provider of other motorcycle protective clothing and has renamed itself LS2 Motogear Europe. The company is based in Barcelona. (aum)
