Shanghai 2025: The Lexus ES becomes more luxurious

Lexus is presenting the new ES as a world premiere at Auto Shanghai (-2.5.). The eighth model generation of the saloon is also due to come to Europe in spring 2026. Both hybrid and electric variants, front-wheel and all-wheel drive will be available. The body with its slimming greenhouse is finely modeled, L-shaped headlights and lights represent a new design language for the brand. A striking feature is the side line, which stretches in steps from the upper edge of the front door to the lower corner of the rear door. In length, the ES grows by almost 17 centimetres to 5.14 meters. It is also wider than the current model. The wheelbase has grown by eight centimeters. The increase in size in all areas enables a particularly luxurious design.

Controls and information sources are arranged in such a way that they can be operated and recognized with only slight hand and eye movements and the driver is distracted as little as possible. The controls remain invisible when switched off and only light up when the driver starts the vehicle. The switches are like touch panels. The upper area of the cockpit has an open design to give the driver an optimum view; thanks to the asymmetrical shape of the 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, it was possible to use a lower hood. The central infotainment screen measures 14 inches. The adaptive cruise control (ACC) now uses map data to simplify braking procedures at stop signs, traffic circles or highway toll booths. The system also supports the driver when decelerating before bends.

Soft, leather-like accents and dynamic lighting effects ensure a high level of material appeal. Bamboo applications and the new imitation leather embossing are intended to create a homely ambience. The rear can be equipped with reclining seats and an ottoman with leg rest is also available for the space behind the front passenger seat for an exclusive chauffeur experience. The front passenger seat can be folded forward to maximize legroom in the rear and improve forward visibility.

The ES 300h uses an advanced, self-charging hybrid system with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine. It delivers 201 hp (148 kW). In addition, the Lexus ES will also be offered with battery-electric drive for the first time - as a 350e with front-wheel drive and 165 kW(224 hp) and as a 500e with fully variable all-wheel drive and an output of 252 kW (343 hp).
