Skoda has opened an assembly plant in Vietnam with its regional partner Thanh Cong Group. The Indian models Kushaq and Slavia are manufactured there on the basis of imported CKD (completely knocked-down) kits. The factory, located in the Vietnamese province of Quang Ninh near the port, has welding stations, a paint shop and the actual production line.
Skoda has been exporting vehicles to Vietnam for one and a half years and manages the Volkswagen Group's activities there within the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). There are currently 15 dealers in the country, and the number is set to more than double by the end of the year. (aum)
