Renault is ushering in a new era of light electric commercial vehicles with three models next year. Estafette, Goelette and Trafic are based on a flexible, scalable "skateboard" architecture and are the result of a collaboration with Flexis. The independent company emerged from a joint venture between Renault, Volvo and the French logistics and shipping company CMA-CGM. The vans are to be built in France at the Sandouville plant.
The Trafic E-Tech Electric will be the fourth generation of the van series launched in 1980. The new edition will have a one-box design, short overhangs and a small turning circle as well as being no higher than 1.90 meters for underground parking.
With the Goelette E-Tech Electric, Renault is picking up on an old model name from the late 1950s and early 1960s. The new model is to be offered as a chassis, panel van and tipper. Up to the B-pillar, it has a similar design to the future Trafic E-Tech Electric, while the rear section is designed for a variety of individual bodies.
The Estafette E-Tech Electric also takes up an earlier model series designation, that of its Trafic predecessor. The design is largely inspired by the Estafette Concept, which was presented last September. It is 5.27 meters long and 1.92 meters and 2.60 meters high, so that one person can stand in it. The Estafette E-Tech Electric has been specially developed for urban use and has a large three-part panoramic windshield and a sliding side door for access. Footboards make it easier to get in and out. At the rear, a one-piece roller blind provides access to the load compartment. (aum)
