BMW M3 CS Touring: Brutal station wagon from Munich

It has taken a long time for BMW to fulfill a long-awaited wish of its fans: Only in the current, sixth generation is there an estate version called Touring. A particularly aggressive special series, which goes by the name of M3 CS Touring, now documents just how well this fits together.

A proud 152,900 euros must change hands for this model, which is an impressive 45,700 euros more than for the regular M3 Competition Touring, which, unlike the M3 Sedan, already has all-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic transmission at the entry level. In return, it offers fine attention to detail.

A modified engine management system and increased boost pressure tease 15 kW/20 hp more out of the three-liter turbo, which now produces 550 hp (405 kW). The sprint from 0 to 100 km/h thus takes 3.5 instead of 3.6 seconds, and the top speed climbs from 250 or 280 km/h to a smooth 300 km/h, which is not due to the higher output, but to the modified control logic. The engine mounts are designed to be tighter to ensure a close connection to the body.

The driving dynamics control, shock absorbers, brakes and steering are even sportier than on the regular M3 Competition, the wheel design is CS-specific, as is the gold bronze wheel color. The carbon fiber body elements are particularly striking, including the front splitter, rear apron, air intakes, exterior mirror caps and the hood. The expensive lightweight material is also used in the interior, including in the standard bucket seats. The CS logo in the headrests is illuminated and their leather upholstery is also model-specific.

Incidentally, the model designation should not be questioned too closely, because in BMW history the letter combination CS actually stands for coupés. In this case, however, it refers to what is probably the sportiest estate BMW has ever built. And a vehicle that is likely to have great collector's potential: According to the factory, the edition is limited, even if the exact number is not yet clear. (aum)
