It is considered one of the most important racing cars in motorsport history. Mercedes returned to motorsport in 1954 with the W 196 R and won the world championship at the first attempt. Four of the legendary Silver Arrows have survived. One of them, from the collection of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum in the USA, will be auctioned at the Mercedes Museum in Stuttgart on February 1 and is likely to be one of the most expensive cars ever traded. After all, legendary racing drivers such as Juan Manuel Fangio and Sterling Moss were at the wheel.
