Coincidence? A prototype of the Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale has reached a top speed of 333 km/h during test drives in Nardò in southern Italy. The team of engineers fine-tuned the driving dynamics and performance of the limited super sports car on the 12.6-kilometre-long, four-kilometre-diameter circular track, which is famous for its numerous world records. The engineers paid particular attention to the aerodynamics, the cooling system and the sound insulation under extreme conditions. During the test drives, the two-seater coupé with chassis number 00 accelerated from a standstill to 100 km/h in less than three seconds.
The Stradale is powered by a V6 twin-turbo petrol engine positioned behind the cockpit, which produces over 620 hp (456 kW) from a displacement of three liters. This is a further development of Alfa Romeo's most powerful series engine. The power is transmitted to the rear wheels via an eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox and an electronic limited slip differential.
Only 33 vehicles of the Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale were built. It is a reminder of the model of the same name, which was derived from the Tipo 33 racing car in 1967 and was even more exclusive with only a dozen vehicles built. The first examples are due to be delivered at the end of December and are expected to cost around three million euros. An electric motor can also be installed on request. (aum)
