With the Lucid Air Pure RWD, the US specialist for premium electric vehicles is launching a basic version on the market that makes it easier for the brand from Silicon Valley to enter its exclusive world. However, this entry-level model is not a special offer: the rear-wheel drive version costs at least 85,000 euros. Exclusivity has its price, and you can hardly be more exclusive than with a Lucid. To date, around 20,000 vehicles of the brand have been built worldwide, making the Lucid Air a rare sight on the road.
The materials in the interior are of a high quality and neatly finished, which is not necessarily to be expected in cars made in the USA. The comfortable seats offer good lateral support and the driver is presented with a tidy information center. The developers have found a menu navigation system for the central screen that can be operated intuitively after a short period of familiarization.
At 4.98 meters, the Lucid Air Pure with rear-wheel drive is a classic saloon. In terms of space in the rear, it surpasses the Mercedes S-Class. The front luggage compartment holds 283 liters, with a further 627 liters in the rear. The Cd value is an impressive 0.197. With its 325 kW (442 hp), the American reaches the 100 km/h mark in under five seconds. The top speed is a regulated 200 km/h.
The Air Pure RWD uses an 88 kWh battery as energy storage, which should enable a range of 747 kilometers according to the WLTP measurement method. The on-board computer actually asks the saloon to return to the charging station after around 600 kilometers. Lucid promises a consumption of 13 kWh per 100 kilometers, which is not quite achieved in everyday use. After a good 1500 kilometers on freeways, small mountain roads and city traffic, the on-board computer reported 15.3 kWh. Not a bad figure. (aum)
