Another Chinese

Chery Motors has been the largest Chinese car exporter for 21 years, but it is only now that the manufacturer from Wuhu is venturing into the German market with its Omoda and Jaecoo brands. The company began exporting in 2001, starting out in Syria. Chery is now active worldwide and announced the production of its 15 millionth vehicle a few weeks ago.

The Omoda 5 and Jaecoo 7 models will be available in Germany next year. One is a 4.40-metre-long crossover that is available as a combustion engine, electric car and plug-in hybrid, while the other is an SUV around ten centimetres longer with a petrol engine and PHEV drive.

Chery already manufactures its vehicles for Europe in Turkey, where it has achieved a market share of five percent within a year and a half. A second plant is already planned there. The company is also currently in the process of setting up the former Nissan plant in Barcelona for production. The European development and research center is located in Germany near Frankfurt.
