New motorcycle registrations in the five largest European markets, which account for around 80 percent of sales, rose slightly in the first nine months compared to the same period last year. 885,500 deliveries represent an increase of 1.3 percent. However, developments varied from country to country.
The positive development is based on Spain and Italy with growth of 6.1% and 5.3% respectively. According to the European industry association ACEM, the German market was 2.7 percent down on the previous year with 185,377 new registrations. In France, the decline was 2.2 percent and in the UK four percent.
Mopeds and scooters, on the other hand, are on the decline. The six most important markets recorded a combined drop of 14.5 percent. A total of 132,533 mopeds were sold. This is more than 22,000 fewer than in the first three quarters of 2023. In Germany, the market weakened the most in percentage terms: 12,368 mopeds and scooters with a maximum speed of 45 km/h were delivered by dealers. That is a decline of 18.8 percent. In France, the decline was 17.7 percent (approx. 49,000 units), in the Netherlands 14.9 percent less (just under 23,550 vehicles), in Spain (10,709 units) the decline was 17.5 percent, in Belgium (22,221 sales) it was 8.6 percent and in Italy, with 14,666 new registrations, it was 4.2 percent less.
