The Federal Network Agency has approved the hydrogen core network proposed by the transmission system operators. The network contains a total of 9040 kilometers of pipelines, which are to go into operation by 2032. Around 60 percent of these will be converted from gas to hydrogen and 40 percent will be newly built. The expected investment costs amount to 18.9 billion euros.
With the hydrogen core network now approved, network operators can now gradually build and operate the infrastructure for hydrogen. The first lines will be converted from 2025. The hydrogen core network is the first step in the development of a Germany-wide hydrogen network. The hydrogen core network connects the future hydrogen clusters throughout Germany. Regional and local hydrogen projects, such as industrial or commercial parks, are bundled in these clusters. The hydrogen core network also takes into account the connection with neighboring countries. (aum)
