The Ram 1500 sets standards
Although the traditional eight-cylinder engines have had their day, the large American pick-ups still make an impressive appearance in Europe. Dodge has now unveiled the new Ram 1500, which is powered by a new 3.0-liter petrol engine and sets new standards in the segment in many respects. The standard version of the combustion engine delivers 420 hp (309 kW) and 636 Newton meters of torque. The "High Output" version delivers 120 hp (88 kW) and 70 Nm more. Alternatively, a 3.6-liter V6 with 305 hp (224 kW) and 364 Nm is available as the base engine. All three are connected to an eight-speed automatic transmission. The all-electric Ram REV is set to follow in around a year's time and will boast an unusually high towing capacity.
The Ram offers a one-ton payload and 3.5-ton towing capacity, a 12.3-inch instrument cluster, up to a 14.5-inch central display and an exclusive 10.25-inch screen for the front passenger. The new Ram 1500 also features a full-color head-up display up to ten inches in size and a digital rear-view mirror in the interior.
New features include Trailer Hitch Assist, which allows the vehicle to self-align with the tongue of the trailer, and Trailer Reverse Assist with dynamic grid lines that show the trailer's estimated direction on the touchscreen. The flatbed is 2.2 square meters in size and has a multifunctional tailgate with two side-hinged doors, which is split 60:40. An electrically operated tailgate is also available as an option, which can be opened and closed automatically using the key fob, a button in the roof console or on the side of the tailgate. A special feature is the Ram Box cargo management system, an additional exterior storage space with lighting and a 115-volt socket. Thanks to a 2 kW inverter on board, customers can also supply external devices such as lamps, televisions and tools with power via two covered sockets on the loading area.
The Ram Rebel with 33-inch off-road tires and underride protection is available especially for off-road drivers. It is surpassed by the RHO, which has 35-inch tires and high-performance shock absorbers with more than 40 percent greater suspension travel for even more ground clearance.
In Europe, the Ram 1500, which is already available to order, will initially be available in the Tradesman, Big Horn, Laramie, Rebel, Limited Tungsten and RHO trim levels at prices starting at 62,000 euros. The new Ram 1500 can already be ordered from dealers. The top-of-the-range Tungsten trim includes 24-way front massage seats and a 1228-watt audio system with 23 speakers.
Dodge also plans to offer the Ram 1500 REV in Europe by the third quarter at the latest. It has a 168 kWh battery pack with a target range of up to 563 kilometers. Thanks to 800-volt technology, a range of up to 177 kilometers can be recharged in just ten minutes. Even more impressive is the specified towing capacity of 6.3 tons. The REV also has a payload of 1.2 tons and an additional 425-litre trunk. (aum)
