VW covers its entire electricity needs with photovoltaics

For the first time, Volkswagen powered its Polish plant in Wrzesnia entirely from solar energy in one day. Thanks to optimal weather conditions, the photovoltaic system on the factory premises was able to supply all the electricity required. The system is one of the largest of its kind in Europe. It comprises 25,000 modules with a capacity of 15.2 megawatts (MW) and covers an area of 22 hectares.

The photovoltaic park was built in two phases: The first part went into operation in 2023, while the second part was recently completed together with the company Quanta Energy. On an annual average, the plant will cover around 20 percent of the electricity requirements. Among other things, the VW Crafter is built at the Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles plant. (aum)
