Kia enters the light commercial vehicle market

At the IAA Transportation, Kia presented its new PBV concept ("Platform Beyond Vehicle") for the first time in Europe, with which the Koreans want to enter the local light commercial vehicle market. The concept comprises a range of electric vehicles on a scalable platform. At the IAA stand in Hall 13, Kia will be showing what this will look like in the future with the four studies PV5 Concept, PV5 People Mover Concept, PV5 High Roof Concept and PV7 Concept. The first production model is planned for summer 2025.

As a confidence-building measure, all PBVs are guaranteed for seven years or 150,000 kilometers. It has not yet been announced how large the batteries and ranges will be. However, it has been announced that they can be charged with up to 150 kW direct current, so that the battery can be filled from 10 to 80 percent in less than 30 minutes. At alternating current stations, the onboard charger draws a maximum of 22 kW. The electric vans will also be able to handle various forms of bidirectional charging in order to use the traction battery as a power source to operate other devices, tools, cooling units or emergency equipment.

To bring its PBV concept to the road, Kia began building a special plant in Korea last year as part of an investment of over three billion euros. Its initial production capacity is expected to be 150,000 units per year, gradually increasing to 300,000 units worldwide. (aum)
