The European safety program Euro NCAP has once again tested several new car models for crash safety and the reliability of their assistance systems, including the Audi Q6 e-tron, Ford Explorer, Subaru Crosstrek, Xpeng G6 as well as the Renault Symbioz and Jeep Avenger. The biggest surprise: the multi-award-winning Jeep only received a three-star rating in the elaborate test procedure (see video). But Renault is also weak.
In contrast, the former, with the exception of the Renault, received the top five-star rating in the latest round of tests. The Q6 e-tron in particular performed very well in protecting adults and children. The new Renault Symbioz only achieved four stars, a result it shares with its partner model, the Captur. A step backwards compared to the five stars awarded to the previous Captur generations in 2013 and 2019. For Euro NCAP Secretary General Michiel van Ratingen, this is a sign that "although these vehicles have made a solid impression, Renault no longer seems to be aiming for the top".
However, the Jeep Avenger leaves a really bad impression. The European "Car of the Year 2023" only achieved a mediocre three-star rating in the safety tests. For a car designed to transport families, it was "particularly surprising that the Avenger only offered poor protection in the chest area for a 10-year-old in the side impact test and is not equipped with a system to detect the presence of children, which is already standard in competitor cars", according to the Euro NCAP verdict. The Avenger also performed poorly in several accident avoidance tests with pedestrians, motorcyclists and cyclists. (aum)
