Philipp Römers, one of Audi's most senior designers, is moving to the electric brand Polestar. He takes over the position of Chief Designer there and succeeds Maximilian Missoni, who is leaving the company.
After studying in Pforzheim, Philipp Römers initially went to Volkswagen, where he worked on the Golf 7 and Passat B8, among others. In 2014, he moved to Audi together with Marc Lichte, where he initially made his mark with the Prologue show car and later with production models such as the A6, Q8 and e-Tron GT. The new Audi Q6 and the upcoming A5, Q5 and A7 model series are also decisively influenced by Römers. Most recently, he was in charge of global exterior design with almost 200 employees.
Born in 1979, Römers reports to Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath, who also once worked as a designer at Audi. "Philipp's modern approach to automotive design and his experience from the luxury and performance segment will support us in the further development of our model range," said Ingenlath.
Polestar has established itself as a design-oriented premium brand. Originally launched as a performance offshoot of Volvo, Polestar initially positioned itself with the Polestar 1 super sports car. The brand now only builds purely electric cars, and the model range includes the Polestar 2, 3 and 4 series.
Meanwhile, the Audi design department is repositioning itself. With Massimo Frascella, who comes from Jaguar Land Rover, a chief designer who does not come from the VW Group has taken the helm. (aum)
