A milestone on the way to approval

The special feature of Volocopter's "VoloCity" flying cab is that the 18 electric motors are mounted in a circular elastic ring. "This special feature is a major challenge for the aeroelastic vibration behavior," says test manager Keith Soal from the DLR Institute of Aeroelasticity in Göttingen. The vibration test identified characteristic behaviors that can now be taken into account in flight control for the best flight maneuvers. The test is an essential building block for the flight certification of the Volocity. (aum)
