Barrier-free to Paris: in cooperation with conversion specialist Gruau, Toyota is offering the Proace Verso as a disabled-friendly version with an automatically extending wheelchair ramp. This solution enables, among others, the wheelchair basketball players around Lisa Bergenthal to remain mobile at the Paralympic Games in Paris.
The converted Toyota Proace Verso is available on request with a one- or two-section wheelchair ramp and air suspension, which allows the rear of the vehicle to be lowered for comfortable entry and exit. In addition to a wheelchair user as a passenger, the Proace Verso offers space for the driver and front passenger as well as up to three passengers in the second row of seats. The Gruau conversion is currently only available for the Proace Verso; a version for the more compact Proace City Verso is due to follow in mid-September.
At the Paralympic Games in Paris (August 28 to September 8), the German wheelchair basketball players will be among those traveling in the converted Proace Verso. The athletes are traveling to the French capital with great ambitions:
"We have been preparing very intensively for the Paralympic Games," explains wheelchair basketball player Lisa Bergenthal, who is appearing in Paris as a Team Toyota athlete. "We've been in training camp continuously since April, with individual and team training on the program. Our goal at the Paralympic tournament is to win a medal." (aum)
