Volkswagen has published the first photos of the new Transporter. The seventh generation of the model series will be launched in three commercial vehicle variants (estate, panel van and flatbed) and as a Caravelle with nine seats for passenger transportation. The estate and panel van are optionally available with a high roof and an extended wheelbase. The drive spectrum ranges from diesel to plug-in hybrid and all-electric versions. They cover a power spectrum from 110 hp (81 kW) in the entry-level diesel to 210 kW (286 hp) in the top-of-the-range electric motor. All-wheel drive is available as an option.
The van is no longer started with the key, but by pressing the start button next to the 12-inch digital instruments and the 13-inch infotainment display. The standard multifunction steering wheel is equipped with clearly arranged buttons. The volume of the infotainment system is adjusted via the steering wheel or a classic rotary knob. The handbrake lever has been removed and is now located in the center of the dashboard as a switch for the parking brake. Another new feature is the space-saving steering column selector lever in the automatic versions. It allows better access to the rear.
The T7 is 5.05 meters long. This is 14.6 centimeters longer than its predecessor, the T6.1, and the wheelbase has grown in parallel. The van is also almost 13 centimetres wider, the load compartment length has increased by six centimetres to 2.60 meters with a normal wheelbase, while the long version is three meters longer. The maximum trailer load increases from a maximum of 2.5 to up to 2.8 tons, depending on the version. With a normal roof, the VW still fits into all standard parking garages.
The Caravelle and panel van will also be available in the particularly robust "Pan Americana" version, while the Caravelle will also be available as an independent "Style" top version. (aum)
