Renault Trucks is continuing its research and development work with the Oxygen electric truck: After an initial test phase in France, a second version, now with a refrigerated box for city logistics, will be tested in Amsterdam for six months. Partners are the Dutch retail chain Jumbo and the freight forwarder SVZ.
The three-axle, ten-metre-long 26-tonne truck was developed together with 17 partners specifically for urban use and has been redesigned both inside and out. The prototype is based on the Renault Trucks E-Tech D Wide, with which it shares its drive system. The two AC synchronous motors have a continuous output of 280 kW (381 hp) and 850 Newton meters of torque. The battery capacity of 282 kWh should provide a range of around 150 kilometers. That's enough for the haulier's daily use.
The Oxygen has a special lowered driver's cab with a low entrance and large windshield. Several cameras replace the rear-view mirrors and also detect vulnerable road users in the blind spot. There is a sliding door on the passenger side, which avoids the risks of conventional doors. (aum)
