Temporary punitive tariffs on Chinese electric cars

The European Union is introducing additional tariffs on electric cars from China tomorrow. The measure will initially apply for four months. The EU accuses Beijing of promoting the Chinese car industry with state subsidies. This distorts competition, according to Brussels. The decision was preceded by attempts to reach an agreement with China. The amount of the punitive tariffs varies depending on the manufacturer. They range between 17.4 and 37.6 percent, according to several media reports. (aum)
