It took time for Audi to finish developing the Q6 e-Tron. Software problems and a change of boss delayed the start of series production of the all-electric mid-size SUV by almost two years. The first electric car to be produced entirely in Ingolstadt will now be rolling out to dealers in August. And the wait was worth it, that much can already be revealed. The Q6 e-Tron has become a really good electric car that impresses in terms of performance, charging power and range - but less so with a well-known Audi characteristic.
Audi has high expectations for the Q6 e-Tron. Not only is it intended to revive the old brand claim "Vorsprung durch Technik". It is also the first electric model from the Bavarians that has to work all over the world. Especially in the USA, where around 40 percent of the volume is to be sold. However, it remains to be seen whether this is a leap forward in view of the growing competition from the West and Far East. But at least the self-proclaimed competitor to the Tesla Model Y, BMW iX3 or Nio EL6 is a big step in the right direction. The new "Premium Platform Electric" (PPE) with 800-volt technology makes it possible, enabling a wide range of performance and drive variants, including for the successors to the A6 Avant and A7. The collaboration with Porsche, which built the Macan Electric on the same platform, also paid off. Rarely has an Audi SUV weighing several tons been so agile and light on its feet. (aum)
