Preview: A former exotic, a farewell and a favorable team
In the beginning, the Toyota Prius was - both visually and technically - an automotive oddity. Now in its fifth generation, sportily shaped and only available as a plug-in hybrid, the former curiosity has become a sexy car, which we invited to a practical test. The next generation is already in the starting blocks: But before the new Hyundai Santa Fe rolls into showrooms, we took the current edition of the SUV flagship for a farewell drive through Austria's mountainous landscape. In the top-of-the-range Signature version, the mid-size SUV has nothing to fear from comparison with its domestic competitors.
The range of convertibles is shrinking, and roadsters would presumably already be extinct if Mazda hadn't developed the MX-5. The savior of the open-top two-seater is 35 years old and still alive. Guido Reinking bows to him.
In Milan or Madrid, traffic in the city would probably come to a complete standstill if many people didn't ride scooters. In Germany, however, transport policy generally only recognizes cars and bicycles. Why is that? Light scooters such as the N-Max 125 from Yamaha are also hot candidates for the traffic turnaround in this country.
Riding a sidecar? That costs money. Jawa and MZ used to offer the inexpensive option of traveling with a sidecar. Mash is continuing this tradition with the Black Side 445, which at just over 10,000 euros is unbeatable in this country. But rough single cylinders are not everyone's cup of tea. With the B-Side 500, two cylinders and a decent 54 hp, the French-Chinese brand is now following suit. And for only 2000 euros more. We are thrilled.
