Part-time power supply from the world champion

The new Seal U DM-i model increases BYD's product range in Germany to seven vehicles. Three versions of the plug-in hybrid SUV are available at dealerships: Boost, Design and Comfort. The design of the part-time electric vehicle does not differ from the electric version. The brand is now the world's largest manufacturer of battery-powered vehicles.

At the front, which is slightly reminiscent of the Porsche Cayenne, only the air intakes indicate the 1.5-liter turbo engine for the hybrid drive. The rear also remains unchanged. The electrical energy is supplied by the so-called blade battery developed by BYD, which the Chinese car manufacturer promises is particularly safe and does not require cobalt. The battery pack consists of thin cells that resemble narrow blades.

All variants of the SUV charge with three-phase alternating current at eleven kW and with direct current at 18 kW, which translates into a charging time of 30 to 80 percent in 35 minutes with direct current. The 1.5-liter combustion engine will be launched on the market in two variants with 98 hp (72 kW) and 130 hp (96 kW). The all-wheel drive Design version (front-wheel drive with Boost and Comfort) has one electric motor on the front axle and one on the rear axle, producing 150 kW (204 hp) and 120 kW (163 hp) respectively, resulting in a system output of 238 kW (324 hp). Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h is completed in 5.9 seconds in the ideal case.

The price list starts at 38,900 euros. (aum/ww)
