Good news for company car drivers and heads of families: there is a new Passat. The big VW has now been rolling off the production line for more than half a century, it once heralded the front-wheel drive era at Volkswagen alongside the wallflower K 70 - and could now be the crowning glory of the combustion engine era. But perhaps everything will turn out quite differently. Because customers still want the classic drive.
For the first time in Europe, it is now only available as an estate, with petrol, diesel or hybrid engines providing propulsion. Power is transmitted to the front wheels or all four wheels and now only via automatic transmission; the manual gearbox has been dropped. With a length of 4.92 meters, the Passat is positioned close to the BMW 5 Series and the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, and is much more spacious than the 3 Series and C-Class. The trunk has a capacity of 690 liters and can be extended to 1920 liters.
Prices for the new Passat start at 39,995 euros for the mild hybrid with 150 PS (110 kW). There are also two plug-in hybrids with an electric range of around 100 kilometers (150 kW / 204 PS and 200 kW / 272 PS), two pure gasoline engines (150 kW / 204 PS and 195 kW / 265 PS) and three turbodiesels (90 kW / 122 PS, 110 kW / 150 PS and 142 kW / 193 PS).
