Second place in the price charts for Ferrari

They had secretly hoped to make the Ferrari 330 LM the most expensive classic car in the world at their auction in New York this week. However, the auctioneers at RM Sotheby's would have had to achieve more than 135 million euros to do so. But when the hammer fell in the evening, the result was 51.7 million dollars first, second and third. In other words, the new owner had to fork out 47.8 million euros - 87 million euros less than the so-called Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR "Uhlenhaut Coupé", built in 1955, was worth to a wealthy car collector, also at RM Sotheby's, one and a half years ago.

It didn't quite work out, but the Ferrari 330 LM, based on the 250 GTO, built in 1962, chassis number 3765, can now boast that it is the second most expensive used car of all time - until someone else comes along.

At the beginning of its career, it led anything but a comfortable life. As the only GTO entered by Scuderia Ferrari in 1962, it won its class at the 1000 km race on the Nürburgring in the same year and came second overall. Also in 1962, he took part in the 24 Hours of Le Mans and secured second place in the hill climb championship in Sicily in 1965. He later won numerous trophies in beauty contests, for example at the Concours d'Elegance in Pebble Beach, California, in 2011 and later on Amelia Island in Florida.

It can be assumed that the new owner will soon be presenting his most valuable piece at similar events around the world. (aum)
