When it comes to vehicle calendars, it is not uncommon for more or less clothed women to play a role in the picture. This is no different for Hamburg photographer Carlos Kella. And yet his weekly calendar "Girls & legendary US cars" stands out every year. It's not just the order of the title that shows that this is about more than just cars - but not less either.
Carlos Kella is at home in the pin-up, burlesque and vintage scene and knows how to present his models in a variety of ways. This year there are nine women, some of whom are already familiar from previous calendars, such as Setty Mois and Julia Barrakuda. They are sometimes more, sometimes less clothed and pose erotic to provocative or elegant to chaste. For 2024, they join almost two dozen American cars ranging from the '31 Ford Model A Roadster and the 1953 Buick Roadmaster Skylark Convertible to the Plymouth Satelite from the late 1960s. From time to time, only legs or half the car can be seen.
Variety is a top priority at Kella, this year possibly more so than ever before. There is, for example, the extreme pin-up motif from the second week of the calendar and very classic vintage scenes such as on page 48. And there has rarely been as much naked skin in individual photos as this time. Once again, however, the picture compositions in which clothing and bodywork come together in color are particularly eye-catching. Only the Christmas motif seems a little too familiar this time.
Girls & legendary US cars 2024" was published by Sway Books. The calendar in 42 x 30.7 centimeter format costs 44.90 euros. (aum)
