The EU Commission will launch a competition investigation into state support for electric car manufacturers in China. Ursula von der Leyen, speaking to the European Parliament in Strasbourg today on the state of the union, said, "The price of these cars is artificially depressed by huge state subsidies - that distorts our market." World markets would be flooded with cheaper Chinese electric cars. Such a competition investigation could lead to punitive tariffs, for example. (aum)
